1. Can you briefly introduce yourself? How would you define yourself today?

Charlène Dalian, class of IENAC19 APPR. Since March 2023, I have been a flight test engineer at Airbus Canada on the A220 program. I test aircraft as they leave production before delivery to customers and, at the same time, work on the development of new technologies and options to be installed and tested on the A220.

2. What has been your biggest challenge so far in your professional career?

Every day during the flight tests is a small challenge. One of the biggest challenges in this journey has been to be considered in the cockpit, but also in the office, with my responsibilities and my place, despite my age and gender. Furthermore, balancing my professional life as a flight crew member with my family life is currently the most difficult thing to accomplish.

3. In your opinion, what are the keys to success as a woman in aeronautics?

Take a step back from events and think carefully before acting, despite behaviors and comments. By understanding cultural interactions between people, as well as the personal and professional experiences of colleagues, we can better understand their reaction to a situation. We often reap what we sow. Generally speaking, having a smile, always being positive and honest remain safe values.

4. In your opinion, what does female ambition mean?

Generally speaking, seeing yourself as different from your colleagues because you're a woman is a mistake. Women's ambition remains to consider that you have the same chances, the same skills, the same opportunities and possibilities for success.

5. What impact has ENAC Alumni's networking program had on your professional environment? What has ENAC Alumni brought you so far? Why did you join?

ENAC Alumni is a large community that shares a unique experience: having been students at ENAC. Beyond diverse professional backgrounds and profiles, this commonality creates a long-term bond with all members of the network.
For me, ENAC Alumni has been, above all, an opportunity to meet wonderful people, exchange ideas, and broaden my knowledge of the various professions in the aeronautics world.

6. What advice would you give to the women listening to us?

We are shooting stars, we only have one life that goes by very very very quickly... so breathe and enjoy every moment.
