Remote Tower Operations: overview, challenges and opportunities

At a time when economic imperatives are threatening the survival or development of a number of variable-traffic airport infrastructures, the airport world is looking for pragmatic solutions. One of these solutions, Remote Tower operations, is already gaining momentum in a number of countries. The concept proposes controlling an airport from a location other than the local control tower, using a set of cameras whose images are relayed to the Remote Tower Centre (RTC) via an installation of screens. This concept has been developed for more than a decade in various parts of the world, and benefits in particular from a working group within SESAR. It poses a number of challenges in terms of ergonomics, safety and security, but also offers great advantages.

The webinar, given in English by Jonas GOURAUD (Solution Consultant at Frequentis and IENAC 12), aims to present the Remote Tower concept and give an overview of existing infrastructures.
