HAO ultra-high altitude operations: an eco-system incubating the future or business as usual?

Today's civil aviation system is optimized for flying aircraft around FL300 flight levels, with a space organization that includes a ceiling at FL660. Several pioneering initiatives have demonstrated the benefits of flying vehicles above and using the new (supposedly) free spaces. These are known as Higher Airspace Operations (HAO).

A number of pioneering manufacturers are developing high-altitude platforms (HAPS) of varying performance: stratospheric balloons, solar-powered aircraft, airships. Others are investing in supersonic or space vehicle projects that will use the same volumes of space. Only these future air operators aim to disrupt the organization of ATM to provide more flexible, automated and cooperative traffic management.

This webinar will present the concepts of operations (Conops) that SESAR JU and the FAA intend to validate in order to integrate these new entrants.

The presentation will be given in French by Pascal SENARD (IENAC 80 / IAC 93).
