When an A380 investigation takes us to Greenland...

(This event will be hold in French)

On 30 September 2017, an Airbus A380 from Paris, France to Los Angeles, USA (flight AF66) suffered an uncontrolled engine failure en route over Greenland. The fan, the first assembly at the front of the engine, as well as the air inlet and fan housing, separated in flight. Data from the flight data recorder (FDR) was used to mark out a search area to find the parts on the ice sheet.

This extensive investigation, which focused on the root cause using tools ranging from airborne radar to high magnification electron microscopes, has yielded safety lessons about the engine materials. These lessons should provide the community with a better vision for future aircraft and engine designs.

A webinar hosted by Yann TORRES - Director of BEA Investigations (Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile), France.
