Optimizing Runway Exit Taxiways using REDIM V3

A webinar of the Airport Think Tank

(This event will be held in English)

The shortage of runway capacity at congested airports in the context of new standards and practices in aircraft separation minima make the optimization of runway exit taxiway systems a relevant subject for enhancing airside performance.

The recently released and upgraded version 3 of the Runway Exit Design Interactive Model (REDIM), developed by Virginia Tech and sponsored by the FAA, was analyzed to determine its suitability to be the tool to use in the methodology. Its performance and reliability for optimally locating runway exits, as well as estimating runway exit utilization and runway occupancy times at arrival, has been evaluated using real airport observations. The main conclusions extracted from this analysis will be reviewed, and the designed methodology will be presented using a realistic case study.

In this webinar, ENAC's MSc IATOM alumnus Raúl Gómez will present the outcomes and conclusions of his End-of-Studies Project, which aimed at devising a methodology for the optimization of runway exit taxiway (RET) systems that can be used by airport operators and consultants.
